Miele Delphi S2120 Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

I should start by saying that this is my first Miele vacuum. After hours or research online (including consumer reports, internet reviews, etc.) I narrowed down my selection to a Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal or the Miele Delphi S2120. Macy's department store had the Dyson DC17 on sale with an additional 10% off, so I decided to try it out. After using the Dyson for the first time, I found that it pulled out fibers from my carpet (5-years old) after many slow passes and too big to get underneath furniture. I should add that I do not have pets or children, so my carpet is what many would consider easy to vacuum. Also, I emptied the container many times to ensure that it did not clog. The second try (same day) I discovered that not only was it continuing to pull out my carpet, but it began to lose suction. I went online again (YouTube) and found that I am not the only person who had complaints after the first couple of uses. YouTube had a good video from a repair shop titled, 'Dyson DC17 Repair & Maintenance Warnings' which helped to explain repair and cleaning. I promptly returned vacuum to Macy's and went to Bed Bath and Beyond (not all stores carry Miele, but they can order it online and waive shipping) to get the Miele. I would recommend that if you purchase a vacuum; get it from a local retailer for hassle free returns and exchanges.

As the previous reviewer wrote, the vacuum is very easy to assemble. I was surprised to learn that the dust bag and filters were already to go (no unpacking needed). It did take some getting used to after using an upright vacuum for so long. At first, it was hard to know if the vacuum was working because it was so quiet and my carpet did not really need vacuuming. I found myself checking the level dial to see what worked best on medium pile dense carpet. After using it a couple of times, I have no doubt that the vacuum has excellent suction and does not produce dust particles for those who are sensitive to dust. Overall, I have NO REGRETS with purchasing the Miele Delphi S2120.

Bissell Big Green Complete Home-Cleaning System, 7700

I don't know why, but I obsess over my tile floors. I have to have them clean and there can't be streaks, spots or dirty grout. To me, it never seemed like a good idea to throw water on the floor, swich it around until dirty, then let it dry. The floor is still dirty. I knew there had to be a better idea. I searched all the stores, then online. I found this machine almost by accident, I think. And you can only get it online. It's the perfect price point. Thank you Amazon -- and thanks to the people who took the time to provide reviews. I had my machine within a couple days.

The first day I used it I knew I had found what I needed. It was immediately obvious that this machine is superior for cleaning the approximately 1800 square feet of ceramic tile in my house. The grout was cleaner, there were no streaks, no spots and, best of all, the effort I expended to clean it was much less than that stupid mop and bucket.

Not only that, I was able to clean my chairs, two couches, and the carpet in the rest of the house. The dirt that came out of all my furniture made me both feel dirty for living on them but also a lot healthier now that they are so much cleaner. I also cleaned the carpet and other fabric areas in my cars with the same great results.

Now, I've only had this machine for a few weeks so I don't know how it's going to last -- especially since I plan to use it a lot. But it seems well made and sturdy. It's not a professional machine to clean tens of thousands of square feet in heavy use buildings. But I found what I need for my 2,400 sq foot house.

I highly recommend this machine if you have a similar situation to mine. Bissell, you could market this machine a little better so more people can benefit from it. But thanks for a great product. You have my endorsement.

After eight years, super hard use, and not a single problem, the motor to my kenmore progressive canister just died. I researched dysons and played around with the idea of getting an upright, but just kept coming back to the Kenmore. It really did a great job and was easy to use. My 7 year old claimed vacuuming was his responsibility and this vacuum is light enough for him to push around where the majority of uprights aren't even close. The plastic cover to the place where the extra tools are stored snapped off and I didn't bother putting it back on because the tools stay in place without it. We thought long and hard before spending this much money for a vacuum. But, the rave reviews on MANY websites finally convinced us to buy the Miele S5281 Pisces vacuum. We had gone through several other vacuums, costing $300-$400 each, all of which met with a seemingly early demise. We are definitely not hard on vacuums and probably don't run them often enough!

The Miele vacuum is everything we thought it would be and more. It is about 1/2 the weight of our old vacuum and the design of the wheels make it VERY easy to pull around. The non-electric rug brush works very well, without pulling threads out of our rugs (like our old vacuum did). The parquet twister floor brush is a delight to use and allows access to many small areas we were unable to reach with our old vacuum. Our whole-house vacuuming time has been reduced about 30% by not having to continually change to small brushes for reaching those areas.

But, the BEST thing about the Miele is how VERY quit it is. We used to have to wear hearing protection with our other vacuum. The Miele is VERY quiet, even on its highest suction setting and just a whisper on the lowest setting.

Yes, the Miele line of vacuums is expensive. But, as with most things, you get what you pay for. They have well thought out designs and are built to last. I've had this vac for a year and it's been great except like some of the others, the switch broke and I had to unplug it to turn it off. Unplug the vac and take out the screws that hold the handle together. It won't come apart completely but enough for the plastic piece that is used to turn it on and off to come off, it has the printed words 'carpet', 'floor', 'off'. The piece is poorly designed and therefore fails easily. Underneath is the real switch with a square black slider button. I moved the switch back and forth to make sure it wasn't stuck. I plugged in the vac and it turned off and on and it worked perfectly. It's a powerful vacuum for sure. And much much quieter then our Kenmore. Fantastic for upholstery and the car. I mean really, really fantastic. And great on carpet. Its biggest weakness is bare floors -- I think the floor attachment is just too big to maintain a really high level of suction. It picks up dirt fine, but not things like Cheerios. And with a three-year-old, that's kind of a problem. I'm guessing another attachment -- the parquet tool or smooth floor tool -- would solve the problem. Had it two years, most frustrating thing is that is basically an excellent product but that it could be SO MUCH BETTER with a few minor adjustments - wait for the upgraded version!!!

Pros:
This vacuum lives up to one key feature that Dyson uses as a selling point: the filtration is HEPA filter grade - excellent. Also, no bags or throw away containers (hard to believe any vacuums are made otherwise) is a plus.

Cons:
Heavy for a small vacuum

Must be emptied after every use as container is small and fills quickly

Cord is too short - can't reach all the way across at 15' X 12' room, if they would have only added another 2' to the dam thing it would be fine.

Tube neck is too big in diameter to reach under furniture or around car seats and other tight places, the whole thing should be much narrower.

Motor (electrically driven) head suddenly loses power on occasion requiring user to press head specific power button to restart.

I purchased this vacuum cleaner in 2008. I moved into a new home.

Other vacuum cleaners were messy to empty, and just didn't do the job.

I can't say enough wonderful things about this vacuum cleaner. It came with the "Twister" Parquet Floor Brush (for hardwoods, and tile, and a Power head for carpeting. It is lightweight, and very quiet even turned up to max.

The Vacuum NEVER EVER EVER loses suction. It has a variable setting on the handle to control the amount of suction and sound. For hardwoods and tile, I turn it all the way up. I use this for my main living area (hardwoods) and in my bathroom with the twister floor brush. It makes cleanups a breeze. I have two cats, and keeping a dust free clean house used to be a chore.

The Powerbrush for carpets is so wonderful, it detaches, and has a headlight. It cleans the carpet quickly and never misses anything.

I dust my house with this vacuum cleaner as well, it has a hidden compartment with all the attachments you will need.
A general brush for dusting, window sills, and other things.

An upholstery brush for couches, and furniture. Speaking of brushes, The floor brush and general brush are maid from natural animal hair, and can be hand washed with some dish soap and let air dry.

Last but not least it comes with a skinny attachment to get in the nooks and crannies of the couch, pure bliss.

You can tell this machine was built right. Germans are well known for automobiles, and well Miele is no exception.
People often can't justify the $1,100.00 price tag for a vacuum cleaner, and I'm here to tell you, it's money well spent.
You will only need to buy a new vacuum every 15 years if you own a Miele.

This is a great vacuum. I thought long and hard about spending $1,000 on a vacuum. It was NOT an easy decision.
5 Stars for the vacuum itself but looses a star due to the attachments.

PROS:
The vacuum itself is great. Powerful suction, low noise (much lower than any other vacuum I've ever heard) which makes it less annoying to vacuum, the auto-power feature works well (remember, it's the amount of air flow that counts, unless your trying to pick up a bowling ball) and it's less strain on the motor, I definitely noticed the REAL HEPA filtering on this vacuum, no smell an no dust blowing around.

CONS:
The ergonomic handle is OK when using the floor attachments but makes dusting shelves and other items difficult when using the attachments. It is also bulking making it difficult to get under and around items. Their solution is to purchase the car cleaning kit or the micro kit at $150 - 175. For $1,000 it should have the option to remove the ergonomic handle. This would have been helpful.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase because I have bad dust allergies and no other vacuum has had real HEPA filtering. I decided my health was worth the expense.

Just wanted to enter a quick review for anyone who is on the fence about purchasing this vacuum. I live in an apartment in NYC and I wanted a small vac to clean my rugs and the carpet in our hallway- that I could stow away without too much trouble. I have kids so there is all manner of dirt and debris and small toys, etc to clean.

I bought this vac about 4 months ago and so far it has greatly exceeded my expectations. This is our 4th vacuum, we had uprights and canisters from the Shark to Hoover to RedDevil and this is by far the best of the lot. The suction from the 11amp motor is very strong and it can pickup even small irritating things that my other vacuums would leave (thin objects like toothpicks, cellophane, tiny beads). The cord retractor is awesome and the casing is pretty tough because I've dropped it a few times and there is no sign of damage.

The only bad things are that the wheels are superfluous because it has a tendency to sit on its back, and it requires a bag. I haven't had any trouble finding bags- even my local hardware store has them- but it would be better if I didn't have to deal with them at all.

I consider myself a smart consumer and research all major purchases thoroughly. Buying a vacuum was a big deal for me as the last few I purchased, I hated. I had the highly rated Eureka Boss upright and Kenmore Progressive cannister. The Eureka was a bear to use due to it's weight and size. The Kenmore power head was cumbersome, wide and very heavy. I wanted a vacuum I could use without feeling like I ran a marathon when I was finished. I FOUND IT! The Metropolitan with the power head is awesome. I purchased this vacuum along with the Sanitaire 670 upright model. The upright has a belt which drives the roller brush, but this canister vacuum does NOT have a roller brush or a belt so I'm confused by a previous reviewers comments. The wide floor attachment is adjustable and glides nicely over my laminate floors. I wouldn't dream of using it on the fringed area of any rugs because the suction is extremely powerful - even when you open the tab to lower the suction. It's extremely lightweight, the attachments are well made, the wand extends a long way, the hose seems a bit flimsy, but that's my only complaint. Bags are a breeze to change and reasonbly priced. This brush did not ship directly from Amazon, but from GoVacuum. Nowhere on the brush is the name Bosch, and though it was supposed to be for my Bosch model, the Compact Plus Health Guard, I suspect it was not even made by Bosch. It is MUCH darker in color than pictured and MUCH darker than my other attachments. The clip by the connection end which is supposed to be used to clip on to the canister is much more difficult to use than the one on the original brush and even when it engages, the wand isn't steady. Miele S2180 Titan Canister Vacuum - Chili Red This instant

I have owned my share of vacuums over the years. And like strollers, I kept trying to find the "one" that would be all I needed. I think I finally found it! About a month ago, I decided to put my Eureka Boss out to pasture and begin the search for a new vacuum. My FIL had a new Dyson vacuum that he seemed to like, so I started my research there. Boy, am I glad other reviewers recommended in their reviews to check out the Miele vacuums instead!

I live in a four story Colonial (basement is "unfinished", but we have rugs down where the washing machine is) and our walk-up attic was just refinished with wall-to-wall carpeting. On the other two "main" floors, it's mostly hardwood/tile and area rugs. So, we have many different floor surfaces requiring different maintenance needs! The more I researched Miele, the more I knew a canister vacuum was for me. I couldn't fathom trying to carry a heavy upright up and down all the different levels in my house. I found a local appliance store that sold Mieles and went to look at them myself. We bought one soon after through Amazon.

Here's what I like most about the Miele:
1. The retractable cord. It's a pet-peeve of mine that more appliances don't have this feature! And although the cord isn't super long, it's enough to do a room (at least in my house) and then unplug it to do another room.
2. The quietness. I just had a second baby and was worried about how I was going to keep the house clean with coordinating TWO nap and sleep schedules. The Titan (and I'm sure most other Mieles) resolve this issue by making it very quiet to use. I even used it in the room with my sleeping newborn and it didn't wake him!
3. The lightness. I can easily move this vacuum up and down the stairs with one hand. Don't know exactly what it weighs, but it's pretty light.
4. The different brushes and "heads" that attach to the hose. My Eureka had some of them, but they were such a pain to use. Switching out the brushes on the Titan is easy and quick. I never thought about vacuuming the top of the trim with my Eureka, but do all the time now with the Titan.
5. The powerbrush. This Miele comes with a powerbrush, which was essential for our house, because we have carpet, and some of it "thick pile". This powerbrush makes it easy to use on carpet and then by just pushing a switch on the handle, you can turn off the power (but not the suction) to the powerbrush and continue to vacuum the hardwood or tile floor. It's not as great as the hardfloor brush (which is also included), but it definitely works better to suck up dust and hairballs better than my Eureka ever did on hardfloor.
6. The filters. This model came with a HEPA filter, but we haven't even used it and the air quality (at least while vacuuming) seemed better! We don't have allergies (at least not indoor ones) though so I'm probably not the best person to believe.
7. The suction. It has six different levels of suction and even at the lowest suction end, it still managed to suck up more dirt than my Eureka ever could! (there's a piece of molding missing around a part on our floor and dirt falls in there like it's the grand canyon....the Titan removed it all, on the LOWEST suction setting!). The most amazing thing is that even with the brush attachments, it doesn't kick the dirt backwards, to be scattered across the floor again. It actually picks up the dirt on hard floor surfaces!

Things that could improve:
1. I wish there were a "handle" on the top of the unit, when it's on its three caster wheels. It would be nice to just pick it up as is and move it over a really high threshold or all the baby-gates we have in our house, without putting it on its "feet" first.
2. A place to store the "parquet floorbrush" on the vacuum itself. It's the only adapter/brush that doesn't have a "home" on the Titan.
3. Might also be nice to "retract" the hose that attaches the canister with the brush attachments, for storage. There seems to be a lot of hose to figure out how to wind around the handle before putting it away. Maybe they could figure out how to make the hose shorter sometimes and longer when you need it.

Overall, I'm EXTREMELY satisfied with this vacuum. And it's even gotten my husband (who NEVER vacuums) to vacuum once in a while! I'd definitely recommend this to my friends and family.Get more detail about Miele S2180 Titan Canister Vacuum - Chili Red.

Purchase Bosch Compact Plus Canister Vacuum Cleaner BSA 2222UC Hard Floor

I just removed all the wall-to-wall carpet in my house and replaced it with hardwood and area rugs, so I needed a new vacuum cleaner suited for the new floors. I originally had my heart set on the Miele, but I found that the Bosch had the same features at half the price, and it's still made in Germany.
It is sooooo quiet. My cat doesn't turn into a lighting-bolt and the kids don't scream at me. I like the variable suction control. I don't need much power on the hardwood, but when I suck up pet-hair from the area-rugs, I crank it up and it does great. I have very low, dense-pile rugs. I can imagine that this wouldn't work well at all on loose or deep-pile rugs. The attachment just isn't suitable for that.
I'm taller than most women, and I really like that it has an adjustable length on the wand, so I don't end up hunch-backed like I do with most vacuums. It's very light and maneuverable. I broke a rib a few days ago, but I was able to vacuum today. I never would have been able to do that with my old upright beast. All the wheels are rubber, so it doesn't marr the hardwood.
The only thing I don't like is the price of the replacement bags. I've ordered some original Bosch bags and also a set of generic bags to compare the performance of the two. Buying Miele S4212 Neptune Canister Vacuum Cleaner

I was in the market recently to replace my aging Bissell bagless upright, which was a mediocre product even when brand new. I did a bit of research and purchased a Dyson DC17 Animal - what I thought was a top of the line vacuum. I used the Dyson for 2 days before returning to Amazon - I was very disappointed with the product - it was bulky (though this was known before I bought it), poorly constructed, and was too harsh on my floors and rugs - the harsh beater brush frayed one of my rugs after 2 uses, a design flaw in my opinion. I had never heard of Miele before seeing the name mentioned a few times while researching the Dyson. Also, a friend had the S4212 Neptune and recommended it. So I went with the Miele (ordered via Amazon) to replace the disappointing Dyson.

To give a quick background - I have a 2000 sq ft single story house, with mostly wood floors and rugs and some tile (kitchen and bathrooms), and I have a dog that sheds profusely. While I did not realize it at the time, it turns out the Miele-style canister vacuum is much better suited to a situation like mine, with hard floors and rugs (as opposed to wall to wall carpeting, which I don't have anywhere in my home).

The Miele is an excellent product. I find that it has strong suction power, but the ability to turn the power down for small area rugs, drapes, and furniture is a huge advantage. It's extremely lightweight and maneuverable, and I can get into tight spaces and under furniture that would be a big problem for an upright (and would require transitioning to the wand, which is a pain). The included parquet attachment does a great job on my hard flooring, and I don't have to worry about it scratching my wood floors. The turbo brush is powerful enough to pick up the dog hair from my rugs, yet not so strong as to damage them. The build quality is solid, the included attachments are useful, and (unlike the Dyson) the Miele includes very useful and easy to follow instructions.


Pros:

~ Adjustable suction (huge plus), allows it to be used on delicate items like small rugs, curtains, some furniture etc. without damage

~ Retractable power cord (much more convenient than having to fumble with the cord on an upright. Some complain the Miele power cord is too short, I find the ability to retract it is a worthwhile tradeoff)

~ Small form factor, easy to store and easy to lug around

~ Relatively quiet

~ Extremely maneuverable - follows me with no problem, parquet brush gets in corders and under furniture with ease

~ Excellent build quality, construction materials, and fit & finish

~ Excellent included tools - Parquet attachment for hard floors, turbobrush for rugs, and a dusting, furniture, and crevice attachment

~ Excellent aftermarket support - company has been around for a long time, shouldn't be hard to get parts if anything breaks, attachments, bags, filters etc.


Cons:

~ The biggest con is, IMO, Miele has too broad and confusing of a product line. The S4 line does not allow for the use of a powered attachment (like the powerbrush), while the cheaper S2 does (the S2 also accepts bigger bags - why doesn't the S4?). Some of the S5 models are extremely expensive, and I can't quite figure out exactly what makes them worth the premium vs. the S4. I think Miele could simplify the product line, or at least make it easier to compare the pros/cons of one vs. the other

~ No ability to accept a powered attachment. Because the S4 cannot accept powered tools (like the powerbrush), it's probably not the best choice if you have wall to wall carpeting. In that case, I'd look at the Miele S2180 Titan Canister Vacuum - Chili Red, which includes the powerbrush. The lower tiered S2 lines don't include a power-brush, but unlike the S4 they are compatible with the power brush if you decide to purchase one in the future.


Overall, it's a 5 star product. The product line is a bit confusing, with some Miele's better for hard wood floors and others better for carpeting. If, like me, you have mostly hard floors with some area rugs (including large area rugs), the Neptune is an excellent choice.
