My wife and I bought this vacuum after reading tons of reviews that raved about it. But, we've only had the vacuum barely two years and it has had multiple problems. To date, the hardwood floor head has a broken lock tab/button (so we either have to baby it or buy a new one), the electric cord no longer retracts, the carpet powerhead doesn't spin any more and we can't seem to figure out why. We've cleaned it and also replaced the belts... so go figure. The unit isn't overly loud and when it was working we were happy enough with its performance. But one thing that started happening shortly after we bought it was that the indicator that tells you when the bag needs changing was not working properly. It usually said the bag needed to be replaced even with a brand new bag. The upshoot of all these problems is that we are now looking for yet another vacuum. Gone are the days when one could buy a Kenmore vac and be confident of having a good 20 or more years of service for your money. Our Kenmore was 35 when we donated it. We bought this Vacuum in 2006, yes, it is almost 4 years old, but after the first 2 years, the on/off switch broke, and now after another year the motor blew. The vacuum is dead. After much research we purchased the Sebo K3. We have had a Hoover and Kenmore canister vacuum previously - and are committed to this style of vacuum. Like other reviewers, I chose this vacuum because I really wanted a Dyson and couldn't afford it. This seemed to have the same types of features I was looking for, but without being so overpriced. It worked well on my carpet in the beginning, looked sharp, was pretty well contained, flush with accessories, and had a nice long cord. Then it sucked up a string, and the rest was history.

This vacuum is constantly getting clogged by just about everything.
Sometimes it sucks up things that I don't intend for it to be near, which goes to show it has great suction when it's working properly, but I have had to put my fingers, elbows, spaghetti fork, wooden spoons, and just about any small handled object I can find into getting the spinning cyclones unclogged. The filter is a pain to clean and has to be dry before it can be put back together. Then, the plastic accessory holders started breaking, so now I have a crappy vacuum, with jagged pieces hanging off it, that won't suck, sitting in my living room. Unlike an earlier reviewer, I've not had a problem with the front wheel scratching our hardwood floors; I hope this is not a condition that develops later on. This vacuum does a very good job on both carpeting and hard floor surfaces. In fact, I'm actually impressed with the bare floor tool's design and performance. It's wider than most other canister vacs I've used (from Hoover, GE and Bissell), and it's a little lighter than its similar competition.

Perhaps I am nit-picking a little here, but I find a few inconveniences that I wouldn't have expected from a company like Eureka. Perhaps my biggest complaint with it is the length of the power cord. The owner's manual specifies it at 15 ft, which is just too short to traverse our 20' X 25' living room without plugging the cord into several outlets. Second, the "Power Hose Coupling" does not allow the hose to rotate freely more than just a few degrees to the left or right. Instead, the front of the vacuum needs to be turned in the direction of use as you move right or left from your starting point. If you forget to do this the vacuum hose will crimp and you'll lose suction. My third complaint also deals with the power hose: in order to replace the dust/dirt bag, you must detach the hose from the vacuum. Since the coupling is made of plastic (as are most parts on the machine) it will eventually fatique and ultimately require replacement. I haven't had experience with other Miele models, but if this thing is any indication, Miele makes a line of excellent machines. Here is a quick rundown of SOME (but not all) of the advantages and disadvantages of this unit:

Pros:
+Excellent filtration (as good as it gets)
+Quieter than any vacuum I've ever heard
+Low ground clearance
+Well designed/engineered in pretty much every aspect (I love the cord winder, wheels, bags, auto-shutoff, etc!)
+Looks really slick while still subdued (doesn't scream "I'm a Dyson!")

Cons:
-Typical disadvantages of being a canister vac. Sometimes difficult to maneuver around corners/doors, sometimes a pain trying to reposition hose.
-Attaching/detaching certain tools and the wand itself can be a little awkward at times
-Price is steep!

The bottom line is that if you can afford it, you absolutely can't go wrong with this vacuum (or presumably any Miele). I give it 5 stars because, while not *perfect*, it certainly is the best vacuum I've ever seen or used...and by a landslide.

This is a generic hose that fits a Dyson, not the same hose that comes directly from Dyson. It is not as heavy/durable as a real Dyson hose. It broke within just a few uses. I called the company who did not want to replace it, but I "badgered" them until they agreed to send another hose - which also broke within 3 months! I recommend you call Dyson directly and explain the problem you're having with your hose. They may be able to replace it for you at no cost. The new one did come with the screws but the brush would only work for about 30 seconds then stop. If you waited a few minutes, it would start working again. When it did work, it worked like a charm but I can't stop every 30 seconds to wait 2 minutes... I don't know if it overheated or was faulty but it would work and then, out of no where, stop. So, third time's a charm, I went back and got one more. The last one, the brush switch wouldn't turn off the brush. By now, I've had it. I took the last one in and just got the Dyson DC25 Animal. I have had all the well known vacuums ove the past 30 years. As a child we had a canister. Didn't know how much I missed one til I got my Miele ....No more uprights for me. I read up.... apparently I needed a suction only vac...no beaters
The blogs were overwhelmingly in favor of the Miele... but soooo many styles ...and a huge price difference. I settled on the Healthy Clean ...10 plus hours of research. Apparently when you go bigger... you get internal storage space... which I don't care about. It is so light... moves and turns well ... and VERY QUIET... can hardly hear it. GREAT on Dog Fur.
My housekeeper uses it most of the time ....she was the one scratching the floors ...for several years. She has other clients with a Miele.... hmmmmmmmmmmm The vacuum of choice for the too busy to vacuum people. * Crevice tool is too short (compared to Kenmore or other cheaper models)
* Floor brush, attaches clumsily to the side while not in use
* Top of the canister tends to scratch easily so don't use it in the garage
* Brushes have to be cranked 'just so' to fit into the canister
* After 6mo the 'bag full' indicator always indicates that the bag needs changing. Give me a break!
* Hose does not swivel well

Summary. For $1K, somewhat disappointing. Great motor...but the accessories that are needed to do heavy duty cleaning are sadly lacking.

The company needs to improve on the details. Outdo the competition on the accessories by adding an LED light to the bare floor brush. Accessories should fit easily into the canister. A 2' longer cord would be nice.

This vacuum has all the features one really needs to keep house & car clean. From a long enough cable over adjustable power (while operating at a very low noise level - even at the highest power setting you can talk on the phone) to smart little things like a holder for hose and tools on the side of the vacuum. So when you stand it upright you just hook the hose into it and it sort of becomes one unit, such avoiding clutter when storing it.
This vacuum seems to suck out all the dirt from anything you put it on. I don't have pets so can't make a call w.r.t. pet hair (pls see other reviews for this), but my house is cleaner than ever before -- I have a mix of carpet, linoleum and hardwood floors. I haven't had a need for the rotating brush yet, as even w/o it the carpets gets clean. The brushes are very flexible and easy to navigate as well. Infinity Upright Vac - NV30 Best Quality

I owned the vac for 2.5 years so don't compare my review with people who have owned their vacs for a few months.

Vac works great for first few years, no problem. Maybe this is how long vacs were designed to last. So if you want a vac that will last 2-3 years and work great, this is your vac. But after two years of normal use, which oddly is when the warranty expires, the integrity of the machine falls apart. The power button on ours stopped working and we had to unplug cord to turn on and off. Machine began making a funny sound. Suction was not as powerful, even after cleaning. The hooks that hold the cord no longer stayed straight.

I have no idea if for the price you can get a vac that lasts more than 2 years but I just bought a Bissel with a 5 year warranty, for a comperable price, if that is any indicator. So at least comparing Bissel and Inifinity on price and warranty . . . I'd take Bissel. I'm sure there are tons of more exspensive vacs that are better too of course.

First, I am a careful shopper and when I buy something that is more than a few hundered dollars I have researched carefully. I bought one of these on a vac clearance sale at Sears about a year ago. It looked great and the salesman was very positive about the product. I have all tile flooring in the house so this was designed for that application especially. About 4-5 months after purchase the vacuum started shutting off on its own while I was using it. I would try and turn it back on with no response. A few minutes later it would work fine. It was as if it would get hot and have to cool down or something. The problem was that it was only 5 minutes or so of use. I contacted Electrolux who asked me several questions including where I bought it and how much I paid. As soon as I told the rep that I bought it on clearance she told me that the warranty was void since I bought a clearanced model. I argued but it did no good. So, I have a "quick vac" that I paid nearly $300 for. I learned that Electrolux DOES NOT stand behind their product. How much I paid should have nothing to do with the warranty (unless of course it would have been used- it was new) They used anything they could to NOT warranty the product. The rep was very nasty. I talked to Sears who did try to fix it without luck but they would not return the vac either and actually, they shouldn't have to - it isn't their fault. I bought this product to replace a 3 year dirt devil bagless upright(BOO) and wow I am really really happy with it I have a combination of slate and wood floors downstairs with carpet upstairs and boy am I happy. on the carpet the power brush worked great, even on my thick shag area rug, although I don't think its meant to handle that type of carpet still worked though it and did a much better job then my dirt devil and it really pick up the cat hairs and did very well over the slate and the wood floor downstairs it really did its job, but there are a few thing the noise level is much better then my upright but still not whisper quite personally I don't care also the tools are very limited and until I put it away I didn't notice the angle suction tool, its in the back of the machine on the bottom (weird) This model does have a hepa filter in the back. The only real concern that I have is the plastic piece that connects the power brush to the aluminum wand seems a little weak (this is the only reason why i gave it 4 stars and not five) on wood floors and flat floors should not be an issue but I have slate floors which are uneven by nature. I know it's not the best machine in the world and I know the $200+ machines from Electrolux are supposed to be better but for half the price. it was amazing to me that i see some poor reviews here on this little vacuum! - i bought one quite a few years ago when they first came out - use it on both carpet/tile/hardwood almost daily. after two years we had a lightning storm which "fried" almost everything plugged in (yes, i'd left it plugged in), including large appliances.
anyway, had to replace it then. that was about 3 yr.s ago - purchased another and love it just as much! i honestly would not trade this little jewel for another rainbow vac.
someone on a review mentioned it having little suction? this vacuum's suction is so powerful that i often need to turn it down!

I've had this vac for a year and it's been great except like some of the others, the switch broke and I had to unplug it to turn it off. Unplug the vac and take out the screws that hold the handle together. It won't come apart completely but enough for the plastic piece that is used to turn it on and off to come off, it has the printed words 'carpet', 'floor', 'off'. The piece is poorly designed and therefore fails easily. Underneath is the real switch with a square black slider button. I moved the switch back and forth to make sure it wasn't stuck. I plugged in the vac and it turned off and on and it worked perfectly. I've reluctantly purchased the LEO to replace the Miele De Luxe 401Si purchased in 1996. The reluctance is based on the following annoyances-
. The 401S1 always ran hot
. The 401Si died due to failure of the fan bearing after about 3,000 hours of operation in the course of 13+ years. Miele's fan bearing is an unsealed ball bearing (made in Singapore) pressed onto the front of the motor armature shaft. The motor and fan assembly was manufactured in the USA by Lamb / Ametek (Part Nr. 117923-23).
. After many hours of research and a $200 expenditure, I was unable to locate an appropriate replacement assembly. A vendor from Valley Stream, NY claimed to have a 117923-23 but sent me a $100 Lamb #115923 (assembled in Mexico).
. Like most "German" companies, Miele generally has the attitude that only 'expert technicians' should repair their machines and is not particularly helpful making replacement parts and exploded diagrams available to the masses.

Cheapest Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum

Out of all of the vacuum cleaners that I have owned in my life I have to say the Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum is the best one ever. There is NOTHING that can clog this vacuum. I have a puppy and she is always chewing things and making big messes. I just pull out the vacuum cleaner and it sucks everthing up no matter how big the pieces are. It is so powerful and easy to use. This is a bagless cleaner and very easy to empty the canister. I have had many vacuums that were bagless and when emptying them the dust and dirt that would fly around made it unbearable, well not with this one. The only downside of this vacuum is that it is very heavy. It does have wheels, however it is still a very heavy pull. I wish this was more of a lightweight vacuum. I also wish the cord was longer, I have put an extension cord on it for my own convenience which works out well. Cheap Bissell Lift-Off Revolution Pet Vac - 37602

Bought this vacuum from a big box retailer two months ago. I was in a hurry and desperate for a vacuum as my old Sears one had died on me. This vac seemed to be the sturdiest one on the showroom floor. I should've looked at it closer than I did - this is a purchase I regret.

What I liked about it on first inspection:

- The canister section separates from the body, creating almost the same effect as a canister vacuum. This is handy in case you want to clean stairs, drapes, etc
- Roller height adjustment for different carpet heights
- Weight of the vacuum means deeper cleaning is possible
- Price was nice compared to the selection I had available

Why it seemed nice the first few times I ran it:

- Very strong suction, as it can pull pet hair and cat litter from my medium-thick carpet with no sweat
- The roller auto-shutoff on upright position is a handy feature to keep from running holes into your carpet
- Attachments are handily placed

Why I hate this vacuum:

What I failed to notice in the store, was how the dust canister separates from the body. In most other upright bagless vacuum models, the canister unlocks and the whole thing lifts out - dust, grit, and usually the filter. Some really bright Bissell designer decided that THIS particular canister would unlock and split from the MIDDLE. Check out the stock images available above - the one on the end - to clearly understand. The HEPA filter is at the top of the canister, above the split, and a dinky tiny 2cup sized cup is below the split. Upon emptying the canister for the first time, I was assaulted with a pile of carpet/pet hair, dust, and particulates as it fell from above the break point. Now I'm filthy, the vacuum is filthy, the floor beneath the vacuum is filthy, and the air is full of all the allergens I was hoping to trap. What a mess.

Under no circumstances should I need to break out my Shop-Vac to clean my House-Vac. However, that's exactly what I found myself having to do. Yes, I'm aware if I follow the "empty at this line" guidelines, the mess probably won't be as much of an issue. However, I'm not going to spend every 5 minutes running to and from the waste bin emptying the dinky cup. (I really did time how long a runtime it took to fill to that line.) The canister design is a hideous oversight and completely ruins the usefulness of this vacuum for any more than occasional cleaning. I have a lot of hardwood and tile floors and stairs. I also have some deep pile carpet and upholstery and a beloved kitty cat.

No seat in the house is too good for him to shed upon. As much as I love him, I don't like what he leaves behind. I had a Panasonic upright commercial vac for 15+ years that served me well and although still functions it is not right right for my new floor coverings, nor does it do a good job of removing the cat hair.

I am very pleased with this vacuum. I believe another reviewer wrote it could suck the chrome off a hitch -- that's an accurate assessment. It is powerful but has 2 settings, high and low so if you want to vacuum your hitch and leave the chrome intact you can.

Things that prevent me from giving it 5 stars:

Cord storage. My Panasonic had a manual wrap too but this machine has no way to keep the cord from raveling off when moving it. I got a velcro strap to remedy that.

No on board tool storage. I have to store the extra tools (crevice device, upholstery brush, etc) in a bag hanging in the garage where I keep the vacuum. A Kenmore canister I had had a lift top with storage for these.

There is no way these things would stop me from buying this vacuum again.

Someone commented that positive reviews for this vac were from Metropolitan employees. I don't know about that but I don't work for them and don't know anyone who does.

Nowhere on the brush is the name Bosch, and though it was supposed to be for my Bosch model, the Compact Plus Health Guard, I suspect it was not even made by Bosch. If you were to read my other reviews (324 of them as of the time I penned this one) you will see that I have never, ever reviewed any household cleaning supplies or devices. There is a reason for this, and the fact that I am male, a lawyer and pushing sixty ought to give you some pretty strong clues. Now how I came to review this nice Kenmore is a long story and involves my mother-in-law. For a significant birthday milestone, I am not allowed to say which one, my mother-in-law took my wife on a long cruise and tour of Italy. This left me at home with two responsibilities-feed the cats and don't mess up the house. The former was comparatively easy; the second a bit more daunting. So I did what any red-blooded American husband would do-I secretly engaged a cleaning lady. My plan was upon her return she would see how nice and clean everything was and would trust me if she should ever again leave for an extended period during football season.

Like all plans of this kind, my plot was instantly uncovered for two basic reasons. The first was that the house was substantially cleaner than I am capable of making it. The second reason involved her being greeted by said cleaning lady when she walked in the door. My wife however is no fool and she told the cleaning lady to return regularly. In spite of the fact that our house has a central vac, the cleaning lady told my wife she preferred a Kenmore canister vacuum (I not making this up) and to keep her happy we bought her a really good one.

The story cannot end there however. You can't write a review about how easy it is to buy a vacuum cleaner. Imagine then my surprise when I was told to assemble it from the box and vacuum up the dead Christmas tree needles. Having done so I am now more than qualified to write a review. So here goes.

Assembly:

The vacuum comes in a box with even the bag inserted. All one has to do is take it out, plug in the hose and the power head (or other attachment), turn it on, and get to vacuuming.


Vacuuming:

Tugging around this canister is no more difficult than lugging a thirty foot central vac hose (okay so I have vacuumed before). The 360 degree swivel keeps the hose from kinking, so I was not constantly twisting the wand. The wand itself is made from aluminum and telescopes out about 3 feet. The power head can be used on bare floors or carpet and the switch conveniently goes from off to floor to carpet and is located on the handle grip. The floor setting will not work properly if the separate pile height setting on the power head is not set to XLO which is Sears-speak for extra low. There is a second power head gizmo for vacuuming stairs and if I am ever stupid enough again to buy another house with stairs I will amend my review to tell you how it does. Additionally there are many non-powered attachments for dusting (what's that?) and crevices.

Storage:

There is a place for all the tools including the power head. The storage of the power head required a quick trip to the owners manual for instructions. That does not diminish the utility of on-board storage for all the gizmos. It is a good idea and well executed.


Suggestions for improvements:

Like most men, I cannot see dirt. Many times my wife will point out areas where I was supposed to have vacuumed as being ignored. So a result of this, one obvious suggestion would be a GPS so I could tell if I have ever been over a particular patch of floor. A second suggestion would be a video monitor like in those new luxury cars that shows thats behind you.
