I bought this vacuum based on the review of others and the expected life of this vacuum cleaner. I haven't had much opportunity to use the vacuum so far, but I noticed a big plus is the noise level is much quieter than any of my previous vacuum cleaners. The wand can be adjusted which is a great plus. My husband made the comment that after I am done cleaning the house the air does not smell like dust. My mom actually gave me this vacuum a few years ago, and she herself had it for several years. So it is durable and long-lasting, I'm sure it has many miles left in it. No parts have ever broken, and I'm not a gentle person and have definitely bumped and smacked it against a lot of furniture, walls, and corners.

The suction is acceptable - however there is no beater bar. There is no beater brush to pick up hairs from the carpet - I guess it's just sucking up lots of dust and debris, but hair is always left behind, and it's difficult to see unless you get right down on the carpet. In common areas, it's not an issue, but in the bedroom... I never knew my husband could shed so much. His hair is all over the floor, and while there is a brush strip on the front edge of the vaccuum, this fills with hair and lint so quickly, it's useless in two minutes. Unless, of course, you pick out the hair and lint by hand. And then you can vacuum for another two minutes.

The bare floor performance is excellent on the wood and tile (in my mother's house) and the linoleum (in my apartment) and while it does keep my wall-to-wall carpet cheerio, goldfish cracker, and cookie crumb-free, the hair issue is really bothering us. If you have long hair that piles into dustbunnies in the corners of your room, this vacuum will flatten out the dustbunnies until they are nearly invisible as an extra layer of carpet.

This vacuum's saving grace is that it is very QUIET. VERY. QUIET. If you want to vacuum while people are sleeping - this is the vacuum for you. If you are a fairly neat person with only everyday adult wear and tear to deal with - this is the vacuum for you. It's tiny and the bags are easy to find online. They even come with a sticker so that you can cover up the hole when you are throwing the bag away. It's not a bad vacuum at all, I just wish it came with a beater brush attachment. After years of using my mothers 40 yo hand-me-down Electrolux, I decided it was time to get a "better" vacuum. I began experimenting with "new technology". Several years and several trashed vacuum cleaners later, I decided to get serious. Cheap vacuums don't work or break within the year. Bagless vacuums can work, but when you empty them, 25 percent of the dust goes right back in the air. Then you have to clean your dirt AGAIN when you clean the canister or the filters. Uprights just don't clean as well as Canisters.
So after much research I settled on the SEBO. What a pleasure. The handle is actually designed to move the way your wrist works. What a concept. It is so quiet, I actually thought it wasn't working at first. You can lay the handle absolutely flat and vacuum all the way under the bed/couch. You can "dim" the power with a touch of a button right on the handle to go over those fringed edges and throw rugs. And the canister follows you around on wheels like a little dog. No dragging it behind you. The little bumber all the way around lets it go around corners and furniture without damaging everything. All my walls and furniture had the telltale bumb mark from my big heavy Electrolux canister. No more. The small tools are onboard so there is no digging around for them, or going back to find them while cleaning. And, here is the best, the handle "parks" in the upright position. * Cleans well
* Extremely quiet and pets tolerate it better than most
*When you turn it on, the motor gradually revs up. Automatic suction also protects the motor from getting burned out if something gets clogged in the nozzel. Great variable height and speed.

Cons,
* Crevice tool is too short (compared to Kenmore or other cheaper models)
* Floor brush, attaches clumsily to the side while not in use
* Top of the canister tends to scratch easily so don't use it in the garage
* Brushes have to be cranked 'just so' to fit into the canister
* After 6mo the 'bag full' indicator always indicates that the bag needs changing. Give me a break!
* Hose does not swivel well

Summary. For $1K, somewhat disappointing. Great motor...but the accessories that are needed to do heavy duty cleaning are sadly lacking.

The company needs to improve on the details. Outdo the competition on the accessories by adding an LED light to the bare floor brush. Accessories should fit easily into the canister. A 2' longer cord would be nice.

This is a great vacuum, and far exceeded my expectations. I had been searching around for a canister vacuum that was rated to work well on carpets and hardwood. Most of them apparently work better for hardwood, but this one works amazingly well on carpets (powerful suction)- better than any vacuum I've ever owned in the past. I don't particularlly think its a good idea to use the powerhead on hardwood, but you have the option of shutting off the powerhead to prevent scratches, or purchase the additional floor tool- which is a great attachment and works wonders. I have also found the dusting attachment to be a great aid in quickly dusting wood furniture and other items. You can't go wrong with this price (currently $180-$200). Cheapest Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum - 5770

Needed a new vacuum and lots of great reviews for this one. My experience just didn't seam quite as good. We got the first unit home and there were parts missing. You have to put the handle and Cord storage pieces on your self. The item didn't have any screws to do this so I took that one back for a new one. The new one did come with the screws but the brush would only work for about 30 seconds then stop. If you waited a few minutes, it would start working again. When it did work, it worked like a charm but I can't stop every 30 seconds to wait 2 minutes... I don't know if it overheated or was faulty but it would work and then, out of no where, stop. So, third time's a charm, I went back and got one more. The last one, the brush switch wouldn't turn off the brush. By now, I've had it. I took the last one in and just got the Dyson DC25 Animal. Just a quick review. This vacuum cleaner is pretty small. I found the suction good but the dust bag is about 1/4 of the vacuum (the rest is the motor) so that may affect the suction by filling up too quick. Have not got to that point yet. I think the size of the dust bag could be compared to a large breakfast cereal bowl. I just have one large room with carpet so the size is not an issue for me. The power head works well. There are a couple of fundamental design flaws. The first is that the power wire from the canister to the power head prevents the flexable hose from staying attached to the vacuum. The canister has ~2inch metal tube sticking out. The hose slips on over the metal tube but by adding on the power lead they have a little plug that prevents the hose from getting a snug connection. This means I cannot move the vacuum around by letting the hose pull it. On the other end of the canister is the blowing end which again has ~2inch metal tube sticking out but on this one you do not use the power head so the plug is not an issue and they also have a bump on the tube to improve the tube to hose connection. It blows pretty good so you have to be careful where that end of the vacuum is pointing. I think it is more designed to be carried around like a backpack so the poor hose connection would not be as much of a problem (but it still is) and then the blower end would be pointing down which would not be as much of a problem. I plan on fixing the blow problem by getting a 90 degee tube connection if I can. As for the power plug it needs to plug in on the side not the connection end of the hose. Might need to do some cutting and duct tape to fix that :( Without the power plug on the hose it connects up well enough. I bought a kenmore intuition vacuum cleaner less than 1 year ago. The telescoping wand broke--just was vacuuming one day and it seperated, the two metal poles just slid apart. Additionally I had been having problems with the motor--it vacuumed fine when it was on, but if I turned off the vacuuum (but left it plugged in) the motor would start-up in bursts of 1 or 2 seconds--very annoying.

I sent the vacuum back for repair and indicated that I felt that sears/kenmore should fix the vacuum at their cost since I spent $500-$600 for this vacuum, and that it wasn't even a year old. They said that it was not under warranty and would not fix it. I ask them if they stood by their products and they responded with "did you buy the extended warranty?" I asked them again if that was necessary for them to stand by their products and they said gave me more run-around. Never once did they mention that they make "quality" products or that their products have a good service record--seems even the employees don't believe it. It was all about getting "more money" for the repair.

I paid 170 for this at Sears and bought the 60 dollar warranty. The suction is great. It is not loud for a vacuum. It has a power head, as in electricity powers the brush rolers, not suction, so performance is consistent.

Someone mentioned the bags being too small for the unit. It does seem so at first, but actually they puff out into a sort of cubed shape like a popcorn bag, so they actually do fit the compartment. You have three different bag options which are a hepa bag, fine particle bag and then just regular plain old vacuum bags. I went with the middle of the road. But the bag prices are very reasonable. I think I got 8 bags for 10 bucks. The hepa type, if I remember were two bags for 15, and the regular bags were like 15 for 10 dollars.

What I didn't like most upon deciding, since I went to sears and checked them all out, were the cheap feeling plasic compartment doors that hold the accessories. It feels like it will just break off if you open it, but it doesn't.

I have four types of flooring, rough hand laid cement, low grade plywood, unfinished pine, and area rugs (the kind from walmart), It worked great on all these types.

I also have a woodstove, so my house accumulates dust fast, plus I have a bunch of kids and live in the country and alot gets tracked in from the outside. This vacuumed up the fine dust generated from the woodstove, cobweb, bits of cement, sheetrock, and fiberglass, dust bunnies, everything... no problem. I pick up larger debris before vacuuming such as woodchips and toys. I pretty much just keep in mind the diameter of the hose and if I think it could get lodged in the hose or not.

Ok, so you get the power head for carpet. It has about four different height settings, works great. The onboard tools include a bare floor attachment, works great and has a short row of bristle on both sides of it. There is an upholstry tool that works great. I have some fabric covered walls (that old 90's office type) and it vacuumed cobweb and dust-lint off them and they look nice again. And it has a crevice tool. I used to own a eureka boss and used the dust brush attachment alot. This did not come with one, but I ordered one for 10 and it should arrive soon. I like to dust with my vacuum. I wish it had come with that attachment. Also, if you order it at the sears store you don't have to pay shipping and they will ship it to your house free.

I don't have pets, so no idea how it does on dog hair. I do have a dog that visits occasionally, but it is short haired. I don't notice any dog hair in my house.

Also, this vacuum uses the same motor as all the Kenmore canisters. The only reason I didn't go with the orange colored one, which is priced just below this one is because the metal rod that attaches to the hose and power head doesn't connect and disconnect as easily. I just thought the other one would be too inconvenient.

I vacuum alot so the features are important to me, but I'm also very conservative with my money so I only buy what I need and no more. The more expensive ones are way more attractive, but this one is very lightweight and portable. I am a very petite person and the nicer vacuums seemed more cumbersome to me. I had also considered a miele vacuum. I think this is a way better value for the money. With the warranty, this is covered indefinately. For 60 dollars I get a 5 year warranty which I can renew every 5 years. They service it free every year for free, and if anything fails on it in between, it is still free to have repaired, not including belts bags and filters, naturally.

Also I had no problem carrying this while using it. Like when I used it to clean the top shelf of the kitchen cabinets, where the rod isn't convenient because you have to be close and lay the brush flat for scrubbing.

I havent used this in my vehicle yet, but as a tip, I keep an extension cord on a cord reel I got at walmart for 10 dollars, and I unwind it to my vehicle when I use my little green machine to shampoo the carpets. That way your cord doesn't get dirty on your machine, just the extention cord which I leave outside. I hope this info helps!!!! And I have pretty much liked every single thing about it until last week. Let me start by saying I did not buy this vacuum here, I bought it at Walmart. My last upright vacuum broke and I was adamant about getting a canister vacuum due to hardwood and carpeted floors, light weight, and easier carrying up stairs. (The uprights are so damn heavy and my parents loved their Bissell canister vac from the 90's) I didnt really have any issues with this vacuum over the past year and a half. We have dogs and cats, no issues with sucking power or clogs. We have hardwood, carpet, tile, and stairs...no issues with ANY of those surfaces. With this vacuum I practically threw my brooms away. HOWEVER...last week my Bissell broke. I knew it was going to happen, I could tell. Certain pieces on this vacuum are FLIMSY AND PLASTIC when they should be metal, etc. The vacuum broke where the "Pole" meets the "Foot" (foot meaning the flat part where the brushes are). I wasnt vacuuming under anything, or around anything. It wasnt "knocked" or "hit" I was just vacuuming low carpet and the plastic literally snapped. It snapped below where the pole connects to the foot so the cable that connects them is still in tact but the pole and the foot have sharred plastic around them and no tape or glue will put it back together. Called Bissell and was told I needed to replace the Pole for $43.99 and the foot for $64.99, since both pieces obviously snapped apart, totaling $108.98. I just dont know that it's worth it. I wasnt blown away by this vacuum, although I had no real issues with it, my old upright did clean a little better. I will take my $108.98 and go buy a crap vacuum from Walmart...since they all seem to be disposable these days anyway.
