Low Price Kenmore Canister Vacuum, Intuition

I bought a kenmore intuition vacuum cleaner less than 1 year ago. The telescoping wand broke--just was vacuuming one day and it seperated, the two metal poles just slid apart. Additionally I had been having problems with the motor--it vacuumed fine when it was on, but if I turned off the vacuuum (but left it plugged in) the motor would start-up in bursts of 1 or 2 seconds--very annoying.

I sent the vacuum back for repair and indicated that I felt that sears/kenmore should fix the vacuum at their cost since I spent $500-$600 for this vacuum, and that it wasn't even a year old. They said that it was not under warranty and would not fix it. I ask them if they stood by their products and they responded with "did you buy the extended warranty?" I asked them again if that was necessary for them to stand by their products and they said gave me more run-around. Never once did they mention that they make "quality" products or that their products have a good service record--seems even the employees don't believe it. It was all about getting "more money" for the repair.
